Software phones are a great tool for the road warrior or for occasional work outside the office. With a headset and a computer you can make and recieve calls from anywhere with a reliable Internet connection.
VoxTop is our own Instant messaging client which includes a softphone. However, there are other SIP based softphones such as X-Lite, Eyebeam and Bria from Counterpath that work extremely well with VoxHub.

Customers have the choice of using our VoxTop softphone or other 3rd party SIP softphones if they are looking for extra features such as video conferencing and desktop integration.
Softphones are great for :-
Adhoc home working
Working on the move as though you are in the office
Saving money when roaming abroad
Softphones limitations :-
Are not as reliable as a dedicated hardphone
You need to have your PC on to make and receive calls.
Call quality can be disrupted by other running applications
The general opinion regarding software phones are that they are not a cheap alternative to a dedicated hardware phone but that they are an indispensible tool for flexible working.
